How to Love & Engage a “Tiny” Audience

What's that saying? "Dance Like Nobody's Watching".

Yeh, nobody watching is probably for the best where I'm concerned. I'm so uncoordinated, self-conscious and quite frankly just a terrible dancer! And that's NOT me being modest!

I did a Step class at the gym once and I really couldn't get the hang of it. When everyone else stepped forward off their step, I went backwards. When they went clockwise, I went anti-clockwise. It was a ridiculous stressful hour for me and I never returned! 😂 Discovered I was much more at home in a Body Pump class where for the best part your feet remain planted. That I can do!

Urgh... I'm rambling - so back to the point!

The point is, when you're putting your content out there - especially at the beginning, you may well have a "tiny" audience. Whether that's 10 people, 100 people or 1000 people.

What you CAN rely on though - is that for every single person you THINK (know) is in your audience - you've got a whole bunch of lurkers. Those are the people who are regularly enjoying your content but haven't hit "like" or "subscribe" YET

You have to get out there and "dance like nobody's watching" - play your guitar like the inner Stevie Nicks you are! One of my favourite things to do on a long drive through the mountains is to crank up a Stevie CD and let rip... I don't think anyone can hear, but so what? I'm playing to a stadium! 🥃

Top Tip for Connecting With Your Audience

I always reply.

I absolutely LOVE it when someone hits reply to my newsletter and gives me their thoughts. It makes me happy and gives me the impetus to keep going - because it's affirmation that your message IS getting through and that you ARE being heard - whether that's to one of my regular audience members or a lurker who's felt emboldened to step forward! 😁

What you're doing is RIGHT.

I'm not much of a Social Media user, but had a lovely comment this week on my YouTube channel (which I need to pick up again because it's a channel I enjoy creating for because it's PROACTIVE, not REACTIVE!) and this genuine dialogue helps you understand and gives you the confidence to keep going so that you CAN improve the lives of your audience members.

Despite being a bit odd (and shit!) at making friends - it really warms my cold, cold heart 😉 when someone reaches out to me.

So your task TODAY please (!) - no excuses - is to add into your newsletters signature something along the lines of:

newsletter-signature-snippet

The people who get you WILL scroll all the way down to the bottom of your emails and they WILL reach out - and that's when you know you're forging GENUINE connections with REAL people - and that's really what it's all about. ❤️

Please don't use this an excuse to "survey your list" - because asking people what you SHOULD sell or what content they WANT is just cheap & lazy marketing - and you will NOT get the answers you want/need because people who don't KNOW what they want & need definitely do NOT know how to articulate that to you!

Leave a Comment... I'd love to hear your thoughts!
