Essential Tools to Start Your Coaching Business

Let's start with the number 1 rule:

YOU DO NOT NEED A COACHING QUALIFICATION!

Nup. You either know your stuff - or you don't, and all the namby-pamby, wrist-wringing "coaching certifications" in the world aren't going to transform you into someone who actually knows what the fuck they're doing - and HOW they can help.

But what you do need to know is how to actually set up and launch your business - finding your niche can be a toughie - because it's NOT enough to just say "I help women find their purpose" - their fucking what? What on EARTH are you talking about? Could you beeeeee any more vague? (Chandler voice).

You need to know some essential tech if you're not from a techy background - over time you'll discover new apps and tools which work for you because we all have different tastes of course.

Great onboarding tools for new coaches are Honeybook or Dubsado which require a bit of personalisation, but really help you automate what you're going to do, book appointments, take payments, etc., etc.

You're also going to need an email provider to send out your newsletters. I've tried a whole ton of them but have come back to ConvertKit simply because it works. It integrates with "everything", has great deliverability (except when it gets attacked by gremlins and ends up in spam - but none of them are infallible!). *My link is an affiliate link which means you'll get 30 days free - and if you decide to sign up with them, I'll get a small commission. Not enough for my own private Caribbean island - but I've got 2 small boys I need to keep in Warhammer here! 😁

Discovery Calls/Strategy Sessions - whatever you want to call them. For the love of G-d, don't you DARE start reading from a script or asking questions such as "if you don't drop $20k on me today - just how sad will your life be in 12 months?"!

What sort of manipulative fucking shit is that? Why on EARTH would you want to make any prospective client feel shit about themselves?

If you want to have strategy sessions with your clients to expand your knowledge and learn more about how it all works - then actually SOLVE A FUCKING PROBLEM and help them out.

It's the ONLY way you're going to be able to demonstrate your expertise - not just come across as a sleazy salesperson asking them to take out a creditcard to buy with you (yep, it really happens 🙄😞).

OK - so you've shown your new client just how fucking amazing you are because during your strategy session you actually y'know HELPED THEM - and they've chosen to sign up with YOU - and not your competitor - because it's YOU who actually stand out because you're ditching the stupid scripts and actually being authentic and real with them - but now comes onboarding.

You need to set your client expectations straight away and you might also have some pre-work you want them to undertake before you begin your sessions.

During the onboarding process, you'll want to outline these expectations - e.g., "I'll only be responding during office hours M-F" or "here's where you can book our sessions for the next 6 weeks out" or whatever it is you want to take care of.

But it's going to help you enormously if you set all this stuff out before you actually start so you're not just winging it and making it up as you go along... it'll also be a far smoother experience for your customer - AND you should head off any problems at the pass and not get burned yourself.

What are you going to be delivering during this 1:1 program? It's all well and good saying "sign up to my 12 week coaching program" - but... what are you actually going to deliver in that time and what would the transformation be?

Again, YOU certainly need to know this and so does your client.

Whilst 1:1 training does have the scope to be malleable to the client's exact needs - you must have a general framework you can refer to so that you know what the EXPECTED trajectory should be during your working together.
